Right to Information (RTI) Officers

 Right to Information Act, 2005

In a democratic system, sovereignty ultimately rests with the people. The Right to Information Act provides citizens with a legal right to access information relating to the functioning of public authorities and promotes transparency and accountability in governance.

Under the Act, when any citizen requests information or copies of records from a Local Self-Government Institution, the information shall generally be provided within 30 days, subject to the provisions and exemptions under the Act. In Grama Panchayats, the Panchayat Secretary serves as the Public Information Officer. The Act also provides for an appeal against the decision of the Information Officer before the designated appellate authority.
